நாளும் ஒரு குறள்  - இதழ் 13:  திருவள்ளுவர் ஆண்டு 2041 ஆவணித் திங்கள் நாள் 11                     ThirukkuRaL - a sonnet a day -13: August 26. தொகுப்பு 10: இனியவை கூறல் Chapter 10: KINDNESS IN WORDS (Sweetness of Expression)   அறத்தின் பாற்பட்டு அன்புகொண்ட உள்ளத் தூய்மையின்  வெளிப்பாடு இன்சொல். சொல்லெல்லாம் இனிய தமிழ்ச்சொலாக வேண்டும்.                       'முகத்தான் அமர்ந்துஇனிது நொக்கி அகத்தானாம்                         இன்சொல் இனிதே அறம்'             குறள் 93                 முகம் மலர்ந்து இனிது நோக்கி, மனத்தால் உணர்ந்து பேசும் உண்மையான சொல்லே அறத்தின் பாற்பட்ட பண்பாகும். (குறள் 92ல் 'ஈதலின்' என்றது ஒப்புவமையே, சிறப்புவமை என்று பொருள் கூறுவது தவறு எனத்தெளிவு படுத்தியுள்ளார்.)         நயமாகச் சொல்லல், கேட்பவர் மனதை மகிழச் செய்து கவர்ந்து ஈர்க்கக் கூடியது. இல்லறத்தில் அமர்ந்து குடிப் பெருமையைக் காப்பவர்கள்; காழ்ப்பு சினம், கடுஞ்சொல் போன்ற குற்றங்களை நீக்கி, இனிமையாகப் பேசி, பிறருடைய நட்பையும் மதிப்பையும் பெற்று, பண்புடையவர்களாக வாழும் முறை இன்சொல்; மனத்தின் தூய்மையில் தோன்றி முகமலர்ந்து நோக்கி, அன்புடன் இனிமையாக, தவறுகளை நீக்கிச் சொல்வதே சிறந்த சொல். உய்ர்ந்த உள்ளத்துடன் நல்வினைகளை நாடி, பணிவுடன், நயமாக; வன்மையும்,சிறுமையும் இல்லாது சொல்வதே, தகவல் தொடர்பு, செய்திப் பரிமாற்ற முறையில் பயனளிக்க வல்லது.           உரையாசிரியர்கள் குறள் 92ல் 'ஈதலின்' என்றதை சிறப்புவமை எனச் சொல்வதை மறு ஆய்வு செய்ய வேண்டும். இன்றேல் திருப்பாவை சொன்னபடி ' ஐயமும் பிச்சையும் ஆந்தனையும் கைகாட்டி உய்யுமாறு எண்ணி உவந்தேலோர் எம்பாவாய்' எனத் தேனொழுகப் பேசி அண்டை வீட்டைக் கைகாட்டும் பாங்கின்மை நீங்காது.                          'Mukaththaan amarnthu inithu noukki akaththaanaam                      insoul inithae aRam'                KuraL 93           Earnest words from the mind, conveyed         with a smile, have virtues in them.   Saying things of substance in courteous tones, pleases and attracts the listeners. Those who desire to succeed in family duties and save honour of the society, have to overcome the evils of anger, envy, harsh words etc.; speak soft, gain friendship and respect from others for a life of merit. An expression is sweet and good that springs from the purity of mind, blossoms with a smiling face, and goes with a message of kindness and love, carefully avoiding faulty lines. Even in information technology, effective communication skills with a persuasive and delicate approach, refined manners of speech convince and yield good results. Rough and tough attitudes run the risk of being ignored or rebutted in negatives.   Sweet words laced with love, free from deceit are the gift of the enlightened. Those adorned with modesty, speaking truth sweetly, do not need other decorations.   Many interpretations in Thamizh and English, on kuRaL 92, which compares  on equal merits, (1) compassion and benevolence from a kind mind flowering up, with (2) the kindness of words expressed with a smile. on face; have followed the misinterpretations of older times that the later (2) is better than the first. That will give a wrong lead to the reader, that escaping with a false smile is better than extending benevolence. Only to obviate any scope for such misunderstanding VaLLuvar has clarified in the follwong couplet 93, that both in combination only leads to a virtuous path.
