Dear Sir,

It may please be recalled that Saint Ramalinga Vallalar conducted Thirukkural classes to his followers. The Saint has advised his followers to peruse the first canto of Thirukkural which contain in his opinion the best of best in this world leading to deathless supreme life. I have enclosed herewith the first kural in english translation with a meaning as suggested to me by the divine. As a citizen of the Vallalarspace.com which I consider as the Second Sathya Gnana Sabai, I am immensely pleased to send to your eyes and to anyone.

With regards,
ssivajayakumar.

Alphabets all, arising from sound primeval, exists

Ever since the world with the causeless Divine.

Thiruvalluvar, focuses our attention first on the unity of language on the plane of consciousness and unity of existence on the plane of universal godhead

Thiruvalluvar has begun the first chapter with a most thought provoking simile more spiritually profound in its import.

In the beginning there was silence. When the chords of silence were struck by the causeless divine, it gave birth to thought in the guise of sound. Alphabets are the feathers in the wings of words. Words spread meaning in the flight of language. Communication lands in consciousness where the thought decoded is assimilated in silence. Just as the alphabets arise from the primordial sound which is nothing but silence, so also the world of all beings emanate from god. The world manifest is the alphabet resulting in meaning and communication and the world unmanifest is in silence.

How many languages are being spoken on this earth? They are spoken only for communicating the thoughts of one human being to the other. When what is spoken is heard, then, the group to which the language belongs to is recognized. But when we hear only the sound of weeping and laughter, no one can recognize the sound of either weeping or laughter as belonging to a particular linguistic group. The language is nothing but a dictionary of sound. For a person who does not understand the language, it is nothing but sound. For a person who can decode the meaning in the sound, it is language.

This thought is not wearing the robes of any language but it is naked in thought. That is why Thiruvalluvar talks about all the alphabets across the entire world in general and not of any language in particular. The sound itself is meaning.

Can any one of the linguistic groups in the world, claim that the sound of thunder, the sound of waves, the sound of air, fire and the earth quakes are in their language? Whether any one of the ancient civilizations in this world can claim possession of the same? Who can decode the message in the natural sound?  When such is the state, whether any one could talk about god who is the author of the existence in its entirety?

God is not only supreme but he is the fountainhead of all the living beings. He is the cause for all but still he is the causeless as well. What Thiruvalluvar emphasizes herein is the spiritual value which transcends all religions of this world. Who can talk about god who is the almighty? That was why Thiruvalluvar has drawn a parallel between the origin of all the alphabets which begin from silence and god as the origin of all the living beings. "A" which is the beginning of sound and the almighty who reigns supreme as the first and foremost cause for all the living beings.

Religious differences and consequent intolerances have precipitated and caused untold extremism and violence which are being justified in all the wars waged. But only when one seeks to walk on the path of spiritual oneness realizing the underlying the fundamental unity of all the living beings on earth, as in the case of alphabets of all over the world converging in the basic consciousness of human beings irrespective of their colour, creed and race, then only peace which is much sought after even today will prevail in this world.

With regards,
ssivajayakumar.
