We are glad to share this News article that was published in the Tamil Newspaper Dinakaran in Pondicherry on 25/05/13. 

As such this may not seem like a great thing, but for Pondicherry, this article marks a milestone in Prevention of Animal Cruelty and Killings, since this highlights the 1st-ever case(FIR) filed against Stray dog cruelty/killings.

Usually, articles in Pondicherry almost always portray Animals/dogs in a negative manner.

Animal Welfare Federation of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry(AWFTP), People's Animal Welfare Society(PAWS, Pondicherry), Scan Foundation and many other local Animal lovers/supporters joined hands to bring out the issue of Animal Welfare, especially highlighting the recent Brutal Attacking/Killing of Pet and Stray dogs on the night of April 1st, 2013 - through a Press Meet conducted yesterday.

HEADLINE - Action to be taken on Dog-killers (Animal Welfare group insists)

That Dogs have been brutally attacked with Steel rods and pipes and killed and disposed on April 1st.

It talks about the recent case filed(FIR) at the Lawspet Police station.

It talks about how the Police have filed the case without including adequate Sections required for the type of crime committed.

The Accused along with the dog-killer gang have not been arrested until now.

That some people kill dogs with poisoned biscuits.

That accidents happen NOT because of dogs, but by drunken/careless drivers.

That the Supreme Court has ordered against Cruelty & Killing of dogs.

That in many States in India, they follow the ABC regulations and Animal Welfare rules except Pondicherry

That if the people responsible are NOT arrested, Animal Welfare groups will stage a Protest.
