| The Great Sermon The Great Sermon of Saint Vallalar, delivered at 8 a.m, on Wednesday, the 22nd of May 1873, at the sacred abode of Siddhivalagam in Mettukuppam, on the occasion of the first ever flag hoisting ceremony. Dear People gathered here, Do not while away your time any more, as you have been doing so far.
Right from now on, and with in a short period of ten days, when God makes his advent at the House of Truth and Charity, you be engaged in an enquiry of the scriptures. Such an enquiry should be about us, and about God protect us from above.
Either together, or individually, or in the company of those who are in tune with your thinking and conduct, if you request velaiah mudaliar, he will offer you an adequate and dignified exposition. You can ask him, or do some useful enquiry by yourselves.
If you have already begun your enquiry, the first thick screen of green, of all the screens, that in ignorance hides our spiritual knowledge, will first go. Once this is gone, the other screens also will quickly go. The nature of the green color is that it is the basic color of black.
Praying that such a thick screen should go, contemplate on God. Though this color is the basis of our ills, when you constantly pray to God, even while resting in bed, to let Him enlighten you of truth, all that you should know shall be known to you,
This enquiry relates to the infinite world of the spirit, and the finite world of Earth. Of these two, the enquire into the earthy world, is not an enquiry at all. Generally, when it is said that one is engaged in an enquiry, it is not to be understood as an enquiry. It is not also an enquiry after truth. For, the meaning of "enquiry" here is that it negates an enquiry into the ordinary world. Thus, an enquiry, such as this, is always about an enquiry into the infinite world.
Just as the moss, covering water, is removed, the green screen of desires that hides our Soul can be removed by the high intensity of the heat of the investigation, and not by other intensities. This intense heat is found in the experiences of yogi. This can not be created by human dimensions. Praying to God, and ever thinking of him, will create the high heat, more than when indulging in an enquiry. The yogis generate this intense of heat, by doing penance in the woods, on the mountains, and in the caves.
By Praying to god, and thinking of Him, a million upon million times over, more intense heat can be generated, than by doing penance.
Thus, in eight hours duration, with no thoughts of the earthly world, but with thoughts of the spiritual world, with spiritual intensity, and with thoughts of god, we would receive what you should.
