Samadhi or peedam of sithars. As they say, sithars transcends and are
living in the world. They say once they born, they do not have the
next birth and are considered to be living. Mahadeva Baba, Shiridi
Sai, Ramana, Ragavendra, Sadasiva Brahmendral, Ramanujar, Pillai
Loakachariar of Yanaimalai, Madurai, and all the 18 first sidhars are
legendary and still in the service of human kind as the part of their
duty. There are more than 6000 jeeva samadhis in Tamilnadu as per the
book published by one Bairava Sannidhanam, Madurai.
Basically these Athistanams as they call were the true places of
maintaining Sanmarkam and sanadhana dharma. They were feeding the
people who came in hunger and thirst. With their deep knowledge of
herbals, they were treating people who came with prolonged diseases.
These were the places of psychological and physical rest and
rejuvenation in those days. All the saints belonging to these
athistanams were much conscious of providing service to humans and
humanity. There are lot of instances when people are healed with pure
vibuthi and theertham of chronic diseases also. Even now this is in
practice in lot of places.
While all the big temples have started annadhanam as a new concept
spending the lowest portion of their revenue on real services, the
basic principle it self in these athistanams are hosting the
visitors. Sometimes these places were used for counselling and most
of the problems of the people were getting resolved in madams and
chavadi. Selfless true service they did. Even now in the older
madams, they have provisions to rest also and stay for few days.
We are trying to recreate such places and would be interested in join
hands in such activities.
