Ignorance and faults afflict not, who glory gain

in the grace of the great benefactor

Faults that have occurred and are likely to come in, out of the darkness of ignorance do not afflict those who have grace of the Great and attain a life of fame.

The word 'iRai' in Thamizh has evolved out of the sound 'Ra'. 'Rae' is name of the first and foremost God of Egyptians from times yore. In European languages evolved out of Latin, the word 'ray' refers to sun beams. The word 'thee' in Thamizh refers to fire generated by rubbing of stones, which gives light in darkness, warmth in cold and is a medium of heating and cooking. The Thamizh word 'thaeivam' evolved from 'thee' as the source of energy and guide as path leader in darkness, came to be recognized and realized as the  guiding power of the Sun and Divine Almighty, (the invisible, but pervasive in all life and matter). The word 'iRai' appears in ThirukkuRaL at nine places  referring ony to the King, Ruler and Protector. In kuRaL couplets 5 and 10 they may be taken to refer to great seers of sublimity and the guiding lights of humanity, who lead and protect lives on earth. The Great Glow of Grace, Vadalur Ramalinga VaLLalaar's perception and philosophy of the Almighty is visualized as the Glow of light from a lamp, is spreading fast, going beyond the cults and codes of conflicting conventional religious faiths.

Divinity, Life and Knowledge are still abstract concepts. The word God (KadavuL) is not found in KuRaL. In usage it is taken to mean something that transcends our mental faculties. Life is a function which throbs inside and motivates functioning of our mind and body. Arising in the depths of our subconscious mind (aanmaa - soul or spirit) and throbbing in our physical mind, Divinity is a matter of our feelings. It has been said that God is the noblest conception of humanity. To understand this clearly and realize its impact, the codes, edicts and tenets of ThirukkuRaL are invaluable guides to refine and direct our lives.

Again it was Saint Vivekananda who said that for those who cannot understand and realize divinity in their minds, it is rather good they give up blind belief on it.

KuRaL has not advocated any belief or faith outside rational ethics. In fact the words belief or faith (nambikkai) are nowhere therein. What we need to cultivate is confidence that motivates forward looking, positive and upward trends in life.  Beliefs that cause setbacks, stagnation, lais-sez faire attitudes or negative actions are harmful to  growth of humanity.

 Observe the following:

"Say the name of Truth is Divine, else

Know the names recited of 'divines' are false"

                                                Poet Subramania Barathi

"Mother and Father are the foremost divines" Saint poet Avvaiyaar
