"Rasavadham" - I consider it as one of the byproducts and not an important knowledge. Let me try and explain this view:
When one journeys towards deathless body, it is a process of trying to merge with the light - Arutperoli. Here one's mind becomes more and more subtle. When mind becomes subtle it masters the nature of each and every element (tatva). We all know this.
Metals are always associated with Akasa tatva (That is why Lord Nataraja statue is always made of metal and not in wood or earth.) and gold is the best of the metals and hence gold represents the highest state in the Akasa tatva - but still in a gross form. Hence when some one converts a rock to gold it is just changing the nature of the rock from a gross vibration to subtle.
I am not sure if its right analogy, but let me use it - If i travel from Bangalore to Chennai, then i have to pass through many towns. So Rasavadham technique is one such town (say Vellore) and nothing more. Sage Vallalar is in Chennai and telling us all as to "how to travel to Chennai" and people who were interested in Rasavadham wanted to travel to Vellore Only.
That is the reason he was probably not interested in questions about Rasavadham. It is important that we understand the scientific aspects about our religion.
