of money when somebody was hungry and roaming. till 50s all the mutts
and temples were offering simple food on a daily basis freely and for
a very small money in some cases. i have heard stories from my
grandpa Chellachami Mudaliar, who was ardent devotee of VALLALAR and
was engaged in Thai Poosam in 50s, about how he was fed in a small
mutt in Madurai in his earlier days in poverty.
Thiru.Chellachami Mudaliar, samy as called locally, was very close to
Swami Sithbhavananda and was engaged in annadhanams and grooming the
children. He was instrumental in starting a small school in madurai
and in construction of Vivekananda College, Tiruvedagam under the
guidance of Swami Sithbavanandha.
Thiru Chellachami Mudaliar was a follower of Gita and lived on it.
Though he created lot of wealth for the family he belong to not even a
single paisa was in his name. Till his last years, he was wearing 4
yards dhoti and a cotton white towel. He was sleeping in a Sack and a
bedsheet to cover for cool temperatures.
Having known the number of people involved in sanmargam, i had to
remember the grandfather who taught,by living with the teaching, about
Vallalar in our childhood.
In his remembrance and the swami in samadhi in our place, we are
trying to recreate the concept of Chavadi and started feeding elders
at present. We hope in future anybody comes hungrily should be fed at
any time. With the blessing of Vallalar and our samy who lived in the
ages of Vallalar, we are trying to improve ourselves.
