Praise the Almighty !  Everybody should know about your inevitable question, and the same question was put forth before Numperumaan Vallalar, by numerable persons from time to time, ever since.

 

During Swamigal`s  conversations with his then devoted devotees, when they were  eager to know (as now, we are) why and  how, what made our Swamigal to become out of religious bonds, it was then Swamigal out of his divine mouth cleared all the doubts, i.e.   thiruvaaimalarndaruliyadu idudaan :

 

Adaavadu, Thiru  Aaraam ( 6)  thirumurai kaalam,  Swamigal says Arutperunjothi is the only Supreme Lord, and Almighty.  During his early days, he proclaims, saivism, and was praising Almighty in the  different forms as/of Siva, Muruga,Parvathi, Vinayaka,Sri Rama, Lakshmi, Saraswathi...... and a staunch follower of idol worship

 

and says in one of his verses,  "Yemmada nilaiyum ninarul nilaiyil ilangudal arindaneyn, yellam sammdamaakki kolgindreynal laal  thanitthu vereynniyadu undo ?  Semmaley, un paadamariyen !  Ciridum inginit thuyaraattreyn,  immadik kadiyen kuritthavaarulla thiyattruvadu unkadan yendaai !"

 

and thus explains to his devoted devotees :

 

 " APPODU YENAKKU ARIVU AVVALAVAAGA VISTHAARAMAGA VILAKKAMAAGA ILLAI,  IPPODU  ARUTPERUNJOTHI   AANDAVAR   YENAKKU   PARIPOORANAMAAI YELLAAM   UNARTHI  YARULINAAR, ADANAAL YELLA  CITTHUKKAALAIYUM PEYRINBATTHAIYUM  MIGA YELIDAAGA PEYTREYN.  ADANAAL  NEENGALUM  ITCHAMAYAMADA VAZHAKKANGGALILELLAM   ILATCHIYAM VAIKKAADEERGAL, VITTU VITTU VELIKKU VARUVEERGALEY YAANAAL,  NEENGALUM  SATTHIYAMAAI  NAAN  PETTRUKONDADAI  PERUVEERGAL"

Swamigal might have felt because of the various forms of idols worships there should not be contradictions,  as you have said above,  and to avoid hatredness among the devotees of various forms of idol worship, and our Swamiy`s  only aim is to create UNIVERSAL ONE-NESS,  AANMANEYA ORUMAIP PAATTU URIMAI, YUIR KULAM ONDREY, ARUTPERUNJOTHI ONDREY KADAVUL,  AND HENCE.  HIS HOLINESS HAD DISCOURAGED THE OLD FORM OF WORSHIP.

 

Innum vilakkikondey pogalaam, adu thanip perum karunai valat thaal ovovvarum unarnduperavendum, Idanaal  mudivaaga ariyap paduvadu yennavenil makkalidatthu ANBU vilaiyaamal poga vaaipirukkum yendrey, uruva vazhippaattil ilatchiyam vaiyaadeergal yena his holyness has advised us.  I have put forth my views for your perusal with a request to pardon for any hurts out of this.

My question:

Saint Vallalar in the initial stage of his spiritual life worshipped Idols  eg: Lord Muruga at Arumigu Kanadaswamy Koil, Kandakottam and Lord siva and Goddess Vadivudai Amman at Thiruvottiyur, Chennai and also written songs about them.   but in later  stage he discouraged it .  Why this contradiction?    Request for answer with good reason.
